I love seeing photos of other writers’ workspaces. It inspires me to be neat and tidy – an aspiration that goes right out the window when I begin writing a book. To say I have never been neat is an understatement but somehow, I know where everything is. I rarely misplace something and, if I do, I know it is the fault of the house imp that lurks in my condo corners and likes to tease me by hiding things or moving them out of place just to annoy me.
Today, as I get my blog ready to put out, chaos reigns supreme in my office. That’s because I had to move stuff out of my living room as my old furniture was leaving and a new sofa set is being delivered later this week. I am very excited but I can’t put anything away until after the new stuff arrives.
So today I made my way to my computer desk—luckily without tripping over the best china or my collection of china animals which had to be stashed in here so I could move a cabinet in the living room. Having made it safely to my desk, I decided to share my chaos story with my readers.
Once the new furniture is in – Friday I hope – stuff will gradually be returned to its place. I plan to be judicious about keeping some things and sadly letting go of others. But not my china animals. They get to stay! Most have been my friends since childhood.
By next week some semblance of order should have returned. That’s my plan. I am coping as best I can with the chaos. How do you manage to balance writing with chaos when your household gets turned upside down by renovations or furniture changes?
