I was pleased to launch Dancing at Dove Lake, Book 4 in The Lamb’s Bay Mysteries, earlier this month. This plot of this book has a special meaning for me. It came to me one misty morning while sitting watching the ducks on a lake up north. I thought it was a good plot idea but had no characters to insert into the script. So, I put my notes aside and went on to other projects.
Writers often do that. We see something that piques our interest, so we start making notes. Sometimes it leads to a story or a poem and sometimes we are left hanging with only part of the idea fully fleshed out.
So, we file those ideas. I’ve talked before in my blogs about how important my scribblings and notes are for me (Writer’s Notes Deliver Ideas – Anne Fotheringham (ajfotheringham.com). And I was extremely pleased when I realized that Brody and Hilly and other folk from Lamb’s Bay fit right into the plot for Dancing at Dove Lake.
When asked what the title of my next book would be and I said “Dancing at Dove Lake” some people asked if it was really about a dance. My response was that old quote about “dancing with the devil” and that’s what Hilly, in particular, is required to do as she attempts to rescue Brody from the clutches of a former classmate who is out for revenge. Why is he seeking revenge? Well, you will have to read the book to find out. It is available on amazon in both Kindle and paperback formats: Dancing at Dove Lake: Book 5 of The Lamb’s Bay Mysteries: Fotheringham, A. J.: 9798749327885: Books – Amazon.ca
Most of the book takes place on a remote island on Dove Lake just north of Lamb’s Bay. The setting is all water, sky, pine trees and rocks. And a healthy dose of the macabre.
COVID and its accompanying restrictions are still with us and I can truthfully say that writing this series has kept me sane these past months. I can live vicariously through my characters and that satisfies my need to be out doing things with family members and friends instead of relying on Zoom calls or the phone all the time.
Book 6 is next on the list – Death at Dune Road. Repair work at Hilly’s home turns up some unexpected finds in her yard – human bones. Hilly has seen her share of dead bodies but, when it comes to finding them in her backyard, she is freaked out. Who is buried there? And why? To find out, you’ll have to read Book 6 coming in late summer.
But I can share the title for Book 7 which I am currently writing – Homicide at the Hotel. No spoiler alerts though. I’m still working on the first draft. It is going to be a busy summer.
Very interesting!!!
