I was in a major bookstore this weekend and while wandering the aisles, I appreciated the vast array of genres and subgenres and just how many books are available in each. If you have a preference for a certain kind of book with your favourite type  of character and  the kind of plot you enjoy, be sure you will find it in this local mega bookstore.

What genre of book do you prefer? Mystery? Romance?  Adventure? Thriller. Fantasy? Sci-Fi? That’s just a quick sampling of what’s out there and how many writers are crafting these books. Some readers stick to one genre or maybe two favourites. Others are wide readers and explore various genres.

I am an eclectic reader. I have a favorite genre but I also read in others depending on my mood and whether the cover and book blurb attract me. A good crime mystery is great – I love trying to figure out the puzzle in the book. But I also, at times, enjoy a good thriller which can keep me up reading till all hours.

Sometimes I get into paranormal books – ones with witches and shapeshifters and other magical beings. Some authors write funny version of these books; others write more serious ones. But they are fun and interesting to read. The imagination in these books is fascinating.

But when it comes to writing, I definitely prefer to write mysteries. I’ll tell you why in next week’s blog.

So, what’s in my TBR pile right now? A couple of cozy mysteries, a suspense novel and the first novel in a paranormal series. I think that should keep me busy until at least the end of February.
