Summer is a good time to go on a writers retreat. But not everyone can afford the costs such as accommodation and travel. But you can do your own retreat from home. Wondering how? Read on.

My recent publication “A Journey to Your Five Senses” is a do-it-yourself guided retreat. It takes place in the span of one day – the day you choose – and at a time you chose. Instructions are included for materials needed – mostly things lying around your own home – and contains writing prompts for each of the five senses you will be exploring.

Our five senses are important and as writers, we can use them as tools in our work to convey how our characters are acting, thinking and feeling and why. We are always told Show don’t Tell. Well, our five senses help us take advantage of that advice. They can be used to Show and take the reader deeper into the overall story, the characters and the action.

The retreat book not only offers writing exercises and room for your writing but also advice on how to approach your retreat, how to plan your day and to use your surroundings both inside your home and outside to explore your senses.

A second day’s retreat is also included in the book as well as a series of seasonal writing prompts you can use to continue honing your awareness of your senses throughout the year. The book is available on amazon in paperback. Here’s the link. Enjoy your retreat.
